I have the honour to transmit for
your consideration the correspondence noted in the margin
respecting the engagement of an Armourer Sergeant for service
with the Police Force of this Colony.

tendent of Police has represented to me that the arms of the
Police Force will suffer if the services of an Armourer are
not made available, and in view of the fact that the
Military Authorities have been unable to lend this Government
the services of an Armourer Sergeant and have further inti-
mated that the successor of Armourer Sergeant Blair (who at
present acts as Armourer to the Hongkong Volunteer Corps and
who may leave the Colony at any time as his term of service
here has already expired) will not be allowed to undertake
work for the Volunteers, I am of opinion that it is essential
